Advanced Technology for Large Structural Systems (ATLSS) Engineering Research Center’s Multi-Directional Experimental Laboratory

The Advanced Technology for Large Structural Systems (ATLSS) Engineering Research Center’s Multi-Directional Experimental Laboratory at Lehigh University was constructed in 1987 under funding from the National Science Foundation to be a major facility for large-scale structural testing. In 2002, the laboratory was enhanced with the construction of the George E. Brown Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES) Real-Time Multi-directional (RTMD) Equipment Site. Civil Infrastructure Testing and Evaluation Laboratory

The laboratories at Penn State are equipped with facilities for a full range of scale and full-size testing of steel, concrete, wood, masonry, and composite structures and subassemblies. College of Engineering researchers have access to the 56,000-square-foot, large-scale Civil Infrastructure Testing and Evaluation Laboratory (CITEL), and five other laboratories for smaller-scale structural testing. Larson Transportation Institute Test Track

The Larson Institute’s full-scale Transportation Research Facilities include a test track facility designed to accommodate a broad range of research activities. The facility features a 1-mile oval, a large vehicle handling area, and a vehicle durability-testing course that allows additional pavement, vehicle, and appurtenance testing. The facility includes a special test section where test surfaces can be installed on a temporary basis for testing. Learn more…

Northeast Center of Excellence for Pavement Technology

The Northeast Center of Excellence for Pavement Technology (NECEPT) at Penn State is one of five regional Superpave centers established by the Federal Highway Administration in 1995. NECEPT functions within the Larson Institute’s Transportation Infrastructure Program laboratory. Facilities include a state-of-the-art binder and mixtures laboratory that is equipped and staffed to perform all of the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) Superpave tests as well as other specialized binder and mixture, subbase and subgrade, and other pavement material characterization tests.
