Brief Description of Research Project | The objective of this study is to develop EPC railroad tie designs with recycled plastics and evaluate their engineering performance for railroad application. Performance evaluations of these ties will be conducted using small-scale and full-scale laboratory tests in adherence to ASTM and AREMA specifications. Because the EPC ties are still relatively new to the railroad industry, some evaluation experiments and approaches still need refinement and improvement, which will also be part of the objectives of this study. |
